India opened fire on the forward villages in the Red Kathar area of Nikayal sector in Kotli district on Sunday when the people of Jammu and Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control as well as rest of the world are observing black day against the Indian invasion of Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947. Nikayal Assistant Commissioner Ch Muhammad Ayub told this correspondent by telephone that Indian troops, without any provocation, targeted the local population of various forward villages in the Red Kathar area of Nikayal sector by resorting to frequent unprovoked shelling that started Sunday afternoon.
As a result, a civilian, Muhammad Dilpazeer of Red Kathar, sustained serious injuries, the AC said. The injured was rushed to a local hospital in Nikyal from where he was sent to Kotli DHQ Hospital in view of his critical condition.
The unprovoked shelling by the Indian army from across the Line of Control continued in Nikayal sector even after evening. Standing crops and other properties were partially damaged by the frequent firing.
The population of the firing-hit villages close to this side of the LoC in the Red Kathar area was confined to their houses the whole day owing to intermittent firing. However, the morale of the local people was high and there was no report of their shifting from the firing-hit areas to safer places.
