WikiLeaks to release benefit album ‘Beat the Blockade’

WIKILEAKS has announced the release of Beat the Blockade, a benefit album for the website’s rising legal costs.

According to a statement from the website, the disc features 12 “cool and inspiring” songs about both the struggles of WikiLeaks as an institution and the troubles of its famous associates, including Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and hacker group Anonymous.
Rolling Stone reports that songs have been donated by the likes of English rapper Dan Bull, who contributes the track ‘WikiLeaks and the Need for Free Speech’ and singer-songwriter David Rovics, who provides ‘Song for Bradley Manning’.
However, the album does not feature any contributions from M.I.A, who recently provided the soundtrack for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s television show The World Tomorrow.                                     –DS
The title comes from the decision of several American financial institutions, including Bank of America, Visa, MasterCard, Western Union and PayPal, to stop processing payments to the site.
In the statement released alongside the new album, the website argues that “the blockade is entirely political and was erected without any legal or administrative process whatsoever”. DS
