Chipped vase costs man dear
A ma n knocked off 12,000 from the value of a 100-year-old Japanese vase when he chipped it while packing it up to take to the Antiques Roadshow. Alan Bridges, 75, from Colchester, had bought the vase in question for just 3 from a car boot sale. Hearing that the popular BBC show was being filmed near his home, he decided to take the three-legged porcelain vase along. However, as the keen collector wrapped it up he accidentally knocked it and caused a piece of glaze to chip. Just how costly a mistake this was became clear when ceramics expert Lars Tharp valued the find at a whopping 14,000 - dropping this to just 2,000 when he saw the damage. Mr Tharp said: That is probably the most expensive chip we have ever shown on the Antiques Roadshow. OCU
