Rihanna leads MTV EMA nominations

LONDON (BBC)Rihanna leads the 2012 MTV European Music Awards (EMA) nominations with six nods. The ‘We Found Love’ hitmaker is up for a host of top accolades, including Best Pop Act, Best Look, Biggest Fans and Best Female - a category which will see her battle Katy Perry, Pink, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Taylor has five nominations in total, including Best Live Act and Best World Stage. Justin Bieber and Katy - who will both take on Taylor and Rihanna for the title of Best Pop act - received four nods each, while several acts picked up a hat-trick of nominations including Nicki, Lady Gaga and Carly Rae Jepsen, who faces stiff competition from Lana Del Rey, One Direction, fun. and Rita Ora for Best Newcomer. Justin will do battle with Kanye West, Flo Rida, Pitbull and Jay-Z for Best Male. Other notable nominees include Green Day, Jack White, Flo Rida, Muse and Ed Sheeran, who will do battle with One Direction, Jessie J, Conor Maynard and Rita for the title of Best UK & Ireland newcomer. No less than 18 acts are up for the Best World Stage category - which celebrates the range and breadth of all the music that MTV has to offer by showcasing incredible artists from all parts of the world - such as Sean Paul, Snow Patrol, Maroon 5 and B.o.B.
