Glacier collapse: Near miss for tourist boat

A TOURIST boat was almost swamped by a huge wave after a slab of ice broke off a glacier in Greenland.
A video posted on YouTube by the nephew of the owner of the vessel shows a dark wall of water racing towards the back of the boat before the driver accelerates away.
Large chunks of ice can be seen in the water as one of the passengers of the boat says: "Wow. This is the wildest thing I have ever tried in my life.
"I have never been this close to dying before."
The incident happened at the Ilulissat Icefjord , a popular tourist destination and Unesco World Heritage Site . Ilulissat means "icebergs" in the local Kalaallisut dialect. It is one of the fastest and most active glaciers in the world. More than 35 sq km of ice is calved off the glacier every year.              –SN
