13 bodies found at Kazakh border

ALMATY - Kazakhstan said Thursday that officials had found 13 corpses in a burnt-out border patrol station in a mountainous area near the border with China. “Right now the burnt remains of 13 people have been found,” said the Kazakhstan’s border service. One was a local huntsman, while the rest are thought to have been guards serving at the station. The border control post Argkankergen usually had 15 guards working there in summer, the service said in a statement. A source in Kazakhstan’s security forces told Interfax that the guards’ weapons had disappeared.

The border station is located in south-east Kazakhstan high in the Tian Shan mountain range, not far from the country’s former capital of Almaty.
