Annan urges UNSC to act decisively

GENEVA  - The UN and Arab League peace envoy on Syria Kofi Annan has urged UN Security Council members to take "strong and concerted action" to end the violence in Syria, a statement said Wednesday.

In talks with a number of governments on Tuesday, Annan "urged members of the Security Council to unite and take concerted and strong action that would help stem the bloodshed in Syria and build momentum for a political transition," Annan's spokesman said in a statement.
He said Annan "condemns all bloodshed, and violence in all its forms, and believes that today's violence only underscores the urgency of decisive Council action".
The statement was issued after a bomb attack in Damascus Wednesday killed at least three top officials in President Bashar al-Assad's regime in an attack claimed by rebels who warned of more carnage to come.
