Demo for job regularisation

February 01, 2013

ISLAMABAD – The teaching and non-teaching staff working on daily wages in model colleges staged a demonstration and sit-in against their non-regularisation, in front of the National Press Club on Thursday.

The protesting employees informed that the Supreme Court and Cabinet Sub-committee on Regularization of Contract/Daily Wages had directed the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development and Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to regularize 979 employees of model colleges on December 13, 2012 but the ministry did not make any efforts to create posts for their regularisation.
They said that initially on the recommendation of the Cabinet sub-committee about 400 teachers and non-teaching staff was regularised but the rest of the employees are still waiting the notification of their regularisation by the Ministry of CAD.
The protesters alleged that the ministry has been deliberately delaying the regularisation of hundreds of employees and instead appointing new staff at different educational institutions on contract basis.
“These employees have been working on daily wages and on meager salaries for the last over 10 years but their services were never regularised. And on the already existing vacant posts the ministry has been regularising its favourites and the seniority has been totally ignored,” Ahsan Baig, one of the protesting employees, regretted.
They said that the sit-in would continue until their demands are met. They appealed to the Chief Justice, President, Prime Minister and the Ministry of CAD to ensure their regularisation to end their financial difficulties and unrest among them so that they can perform their duties with peace of mind.
