Interim setup through democratic process: Kaira

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that interim setup would be established through democratic process and with consultation of all political parties.

Talking to Pakistan television channel, Kaira said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believed in power of the institutions and for this all institutional reforms had been introduced by democratic government to strengthen the democratic institutions in the country. He said that caretaker Prime Minister would be nominated through democratic process, in which leader of the house and leader of the opposition would consult in this regards and for this consensus of all political stake holders will also be necessary.
The minister said that good governess is only possible through strong and stable democratic institutions, which give political right to the people according to the constitution.
Replying to a question, he said that PPP fully favor a strong and independent election commission to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the country.
Kaira added that the democratic government has appointed the honest Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhrrudin G Ibrahim with the consultation of all political parties, which was a sincere efforts to ensure transparency in polls.
Replying to a question, Kaira said that in past history all precedents existed that non democratic forces had grabbed elections from PPP. He said that PPP has rendered a lot of sacrifices for democracy and we would protect it at any cost.
He strongly criticized the leader of the opposition Chaudhary Nisar on his statement and said that he (Nisar) is still living in politics of 1990 era.
Replying to another question, Kaira said that majority of politicians including legislators are paying their taxes regularly. He said that some quarters of media was exaggerating the statistics regarding politician’s tax collections.
The minster said that PPP government has increased the tax collection in double digits and also introduced tax reforms in the country.
Replying to a question, Kaira said that current democratic government has increased the export trade volume from $16 to $24 billion, which is a clear indication of sustainable industrial and trade growth.
Kaira said that PPP made structural changes in political system and brought a record legislation in the country’s history.
He said that democratic government has faced the huge crisis of world history in its initial months, like global economic depression, war on terrorism and two huge flood but despite that government has accepted all challenge.
The minister said that the government and its coalition partners had peacefully negotiated with Minhaj-ul-Quran chief Tahirul Qadri according to the Constitution of the country.
He was optimistic that Pakistan society has been passing through the transitional phase and things would be better with the continuity of the democratic system.
