Body decides to regularise LHWs

ISLAMABAD - The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Regularization of Contract/Daily Wages Employees, which met here under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah on Thursday, approved the regularization of the 106,000 employees of the defunct Lady Health Workers Programme.

According to official sources, the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan have agreed to the decision of the Cabinet Sub-Committee except Punjab who showed reservations on the decision.  Under the decision, 53,000 employees of the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan will be regularized w.e.f. 01-07-2012 for which the federal government will provide funding @ Rs. 8,000/- per person till 2015 after which the provincial governments will bear the expenditure of the salaries of all such employees.
Besides, the Cabinet Sub-Committee also decided that the requisite funds Rs. 8000/- per employee would be provided to the Punjab government as well despite their disagreement to the decision. Ministers for IPC, CA&D and Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit Baltistan also attended the meeting.
