ISLAMABAD: The final decision on the fuel adjustment cost for the month of February and March will be notified within next 3-4 days.NEPRA in its hearing agreed on Rs 2.38 per unit for both months. The cost might decrease slightly but not much hope for a significant decline. But some members had reservations.Central Power Purchase Agency had requested increase of 69 paisa for the month of February and Rs.1.88 per unit for the month of March against fuel consumption for power generation but DISCOs insisted on more, and Rs 2.38 was recommended finally, some members opposed it. The sources said that there might be costs claimed by distribution companies that the authority might not consider but the consumers will have to pay the fuel difference cost anyway. The sources also said that CPPA also had claimed for the fuel adjustment against rental power plants that was rejected by NEPRA.They further said that rental plants generated electricity could not be afforded by any means as one of the rental plant “Karkey Power Ship” was costing Rs 50 per unit which is considered highest in the world.Sources also revealed that energy mix imbalances would make the masses suffer a lot in the ongoing year as the demand has increased but there is no hydel power generation source added in the system that could make electricity economical to some extent. In the present circumstances energy cost seems to be increasing continuously. The government had to work on war footing to ease the consumers but they did not and now it does not seem possible in the remaining time for the present rulers.
