ISLAMABAD - An orientation session was arranged here at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) by different departments to introduce new students and their parents with the environment of the university, they have chosen to study a particular discipline.
In order to introduce and brief the new students, who have just been enrolled in different disciplines and programmes of studies, and their parents about features of the particular discipline, scheme of study, evaluation and exam system, important features of the campus, codes, facilities available in each department, faculty details, curricular and co-curricular activities, students’ participation and distinction of the department, a three-day orientation session and reception was held.
Moreover, the basic objective behind the orientation was to explain the parents and the students that what actually is required from them, what is being offered in a particular discipline and how a student can put his/her best with the help of coordinated efforts of the teachers and parents.
While talking to scribe, the head of English Studies Department Dr Nighat Ahmed said “it is an effort to provide an opportunity to parents and students to have an idea of campus, departments and the university and then develop an interaction with teachers to have any guidance regarding their studies”.
On the first day of this orientation session, Faculty of Engineering and IT and Faculty of Social Sciences including International Relations, Mass Communication, Economics, Education and Pakistan Studies departments held their orientation sessions for the newly enrolled students and their parents. Then Management Sciences, other departments of languages including, Arabic, Chinese, German, French, Hindi, Korean, Italian, Persian held their sessions on 2nd day while English Studies Department held its orientation session on Friday 31, 2012.
A great number of parents and students attended the session and they appreciated the initiative of the university for brining the teachers, students and parents together at one platform. After the orientation session refreshment was also arranged for the guests. The regular classes of all the departments will be commenced from Monday, September 3, 2012.
