ISLAMABAD - PAEC Chairman Dr Ansar Parvez on Tuesday said that the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission was making efforts to lessen the misery of victims of cancer disease and provide cure to the needy.
Addressing a one-day symposium on "Radionuclide Therapies - from bench to bedside" here at the Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), he said, "We should launch programmes to create awareness among the people for early diagnosis and detection of cancer. We should also use media for dissemination of information among the general public to emphasise the importance of early diagnosis and detection of cancer."
Dr Ansar Parvez said PAEC had 18 nuclear medical centres operating throughout the country. PAEC is also considering establishment of small centres of radiotherapy nearer to the small towns where people will get treatment closer to their homes, he added.
He said that in Pakistan, literacy rate was low, that was why the people were not aware of the treatment that they could get. The seminars, symposia, workshops and mutual consultations certainly help, he added.
