RAWALPINDI – Senator Begum Najma Hamid has said that Punjab government is giving special attention towards the welfare and development of the women and the participation of the women in mainstream development of the country is also being ensured under a comprehensive programme.
She said that it was the duty of the government as well as all segments of society to play role for protection of women rights and Islam also emphasises on caring for the rights of the women.
She said that their should be presence and availability of first aid box in all institutions relating and based on women and it was a laudable step to distribute first aid boxes among the girls schools, women institutions and NGOs working for women welfare by the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) in collaboration with One Window Counter on domestic violence against women project of UNDP.
She stated this while addressing as chief guest at a function held in Social Welfare Department institution “Kashana” for distribution of first aid boxes to girls educational institutions, women organisation and NGOs working for women here on Monday. The function was organised with joint corporation of CDGR and UNDP project of One Window Counter on Domestic Violence Against Women.
Project manager One window Counter on Domestic Violence Against Women, UNDP Rizwan Nazir, Focal Person and Assistant commissioner Rawalpindi Quratul Ain, District Officer social Welfare Department Rawalpindi Muhammad Shafiq Awan, Deputy District Officer Social Welfare Amar shahzad Shah, representative officers and office bearers of Education Department , girls schools, women organisations and NGOs working for women were present on this occaion . The chief guest distributed eighty first aid boxes among girls educational institutions, women organization and NGOs on this occasion.
Senator Begum Najma Hamid said that all segments of society should play active role for discouraging all kind of pressures and violence against women. She added that our religious teachings emphasising on protection of women rights should also be projected to make the people aware of women rights. She further said that mitigation in violence against women, protection of their rights and their welfare could also be improve and made better by promotion of education in the country.
She also appreciated the performance of social welfare department and its institutions for protection and welfare of women.
Assistant commissioner Rawalpindi who was also focal person for One Window counter on Domestic Violence against women, Quratul Ain while addressing on the occasion said that the objective of distributing first aid boxes among the girls schools, women institutions and NGOs was to promote and highlight the feeling and realization that all such women institutions should have first aid boxes to meet any emergency. She also underlined the need for creating and encouraging awareness about all kind of violence against women and the responsibility of the society in this respect. She informed that LCD TV, computer, electric Water cooler, Washing Machine, sewing machines, room cooler, iron, water heater and geysers had been provided in Dar ul Aman and Kashana, with a view to facilitate the inmates of these institutions of Social Welfare Department Rawalpindi. Project Manager One window counter on Domestic Violence against women, UNDP Rizwan Nazir, District Officer Social Welfare Department Shafiq Awan and DDO Social Welfare Amar Shahzad shah also addressed the function.
