RAWALPINDI – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, on receipt of secret information through its source, conducted raid over the Illegal Gateway Exchanges at Adilla road.

According to details shared by the FIA spokesperson, huge loss was being caused to the government exchequer by terminating International Voice Traffic through this illegal gateway exchange. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Sajad Haider, Director Cyber Crime Circle FIA Islamabad Zone. The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) registered a case against Waqar Maqbool and Ahmed Imam involved in the illegal termination of international traffic using unauthorised Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP). The gateway exchange is a telephone switch that forms a gateway between a national telephone network and one or more international gateway exchanges, providing cross-border connectivity.
In Pakistan, Internet users are supposed to obtain a licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for running a gateway exchange. But a large number of people operate gateway exchanges illegally. VoIP is one of the families of Internet technologies, communication protocols, and transmission technologies that facilitates voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks.
It may be added that FIA with state of the art monitoring facility is observing the international traffic coming in to the country, round the clock. The aim of monitoring is to identify the illegal gateway exchanges and track the elements operating them.
