Twin cities providing good opportunity to labour class

ISLAMABAD - Twin Cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are providing good opportunity to people coming here from across the country, seeking employment or even the labour work.

A swarm of these people, of whom mostly are laborers, can be seen at different busy spots or in commercial areas. They are ready to do the required work of their potential employer and they are pretty flexible to negotiate the charges.
According to a survey conducted by this scribe, one of the business hubs of the Capital housing such ambitious, but needy persons in ‘Khanna Bridge’, Islamabad Expressway.
These days they are found squatting on the green belt along the road and warming their hands by the fire, which can easily be lit through the left-over of nearby fruit and vegetable market. They have eager eyes on every vehicle that stops, and take no time to offer services.
Mostly it’s done quickly and on first come, first avail, however some times, customers who are more curious about their money come the whole lot to find out the ones willing to do the jobs at lower rates. It is a joyous moment for those laborers who make it, but its disappointing for many others who don’t. They come early in the morning and stay there until midnight.
Some even go back homes, if they do have any, without finding any work to come again the next day with a new hope. Ammar Khan, resident of Ghori Town, which is situated close to ‘Khanna Bridge’ informed that he had to shift somewhere and wanted to bring some laborers to transport his home luggage.
He was taken a back at number of persons willing to go with him. “I needed only two persons to load and unload my stuff from one destination to another, but there was a lot more to go with me. I felt sorry for those whom I had to refuse,” he revealed.
It was an interesting chat that Ammar Khan had with the laborers during the course of work. He came to know they were part of a group of at least 20 people that came here to earn livelihood. Most of the laborers live in rented homes, which are easily available, and on cheaper rates around Khanna Bridge.
