ISLAMABAD – Secretary Narcotics Control Javed Iqbal Thursday stressed the need of effective strategy and pro-active role of police force against drug paddlers across the country.
He stated this in a meeting with provincial stakeholders of all four provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and representatives of various federal ministries including Interior Ministry, Commerce, Religious Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Law and Justice, Railways, C&AD, Human Resource and Higher Education Commission.
Joint Secretary Narcotics Control Zulqarnain Aamir was also present on the occasion.
Secretary Narcotics also sought help of provinces in establishing special wards at district and tehsil level hospitals for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.
He said for chalking out effective strategy it was important that provincial governments should share data of drug users and treatment facilities.
He said greater coordination among all stakeholders necessary for achieving goals of Anti-Narcotics Policy 2010.
Earlier, Muhammad Shahid, Director General Planning and Monitoring Unit, Ministry of Narcotics Control briefed the participants regarding drug situation in the country.
He said that the ministry has initiated various new projects including protocols for treatment of drug addicts and introduction of oral substitution treatment.
He said that drug abuse survey has been completed and its results will be announced in the first week of March.
The provincial representatives of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, AJK, G-B including HEC assured the ministry of Narcotics Control their full cooperation in fighting the menace of drug.
