The Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that the issue before the court related to the Act not the Ordinance and added that the provincial assemblies have the powers to make laws, the court was only concerned that nothing was being done against the constitution.

Petitioners’ lawyer Mian Abdul Rauf made a plea to the court that Sindh Local government Act be declared void.
The CJ asked him to cite any reference to a case where the court has undone a law made by the assembly and added that the court was not concerned what was happening in the assembly.
Lawyer Mian Abdul Rauf took the stance that the court had declared NRO void.
The chief justice reminding him said that two months time was given for getting the NRO approved by the assembly, which, thereafter, was thrown out of the assembly.
Later, the hearing was adjourned until February 12.
