Dead bodies of eight soldiers have so far been recovered from the site of avalanche site at Gyari sector that buried 139 people at a high-altitude army camp more than eight weeks ago. According to a spokesman of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) here, identity of the martyred soldiers is being ascertained. The statement said that the digging and search would go on till recovery of the last victim. A huge wall of snow crashed into the remote Siachen Glacier base high in the mountains in the early hours of April 7, smothering an area of one square kilometre (a third of a square mile), trapping 129 soldiers and 10 civilians at the Gayari camp. "The body of one more soldier was found today from the avalanche site and the process of his identification is underway," the military said in a statement. Separately, Major Zakaullah, a victim of avalanche, was laid to rest in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed area of Muzaffar Garh in Punjab on Wednesday. It may be mentioned here that 139 soldiers including some civilians of 6 Northern Light Infantry Battalion came under a huge snow slide early Saturday morning (April 7, 2012) in Gayari sector near Skardu.
