ISLAMABAD - Difa-i-Pakistan Council (Pakistan Defence Council), an umbrella of right wing entities and personalities, Saturday strongly rejected the possible recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) to redefine terms of engagement with US, showing fear that this would result in the resumption of NATO supplies.
Chairman Pakistan Defence Council (PDC) and chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam -Samiul Haq group (JUI-F), Maulana Samiul Haq said this during a press conference after the end of Council’ national leadership moot at a local hotel. Maulana Sami stressed that PDC strongly rejected the government’s announcement to grant India most favoured nation (MFN) status and any kind of trade with it until the solution of Pakistan’s water as well as Kashmir issues with the neighbouring country. He said that they had read and heard through media reports that PCNS was forwarding recommendations to the government that would provide basis to redefine the Pak-Us and Pak-Nato future relations with Pakistan. He feared that such recommendations would pave way to resume the Nato supplies to Afghanistan and that would not be acceptable to the nation in any way. “ We no more want to be part of US polices and the war on terrorism,” he said.
Maulana Sami warned the government that it was the unanimous decision of that day’s national leadership moot of PDC that protest rallies would be held all around the country if Nato supplies were restored by the government. “The moot also demands of the government to isolate it from the so-called war on terrorism,” he stressed.
He also informed that PDC would hold its ‘grand’ conferences on January 22 in Rawalpindi, January 29 in Multan and February 12 in Karachi to convey a tough message to the government and the world with reference to the defence of the homeland.
A declaration issued after the conclusion of the national moot says that the Nato supplies to US and its allied forces in Afghanistan should not be resumed in any way. “The moot rejects as well as condemns any move to open Nato supplies in the guise of PCNS recommendations,” it further says. It also says that to vacate Shamsi Airbase and cut Nato supplies was a good step taken by the government as a result of which US stopped attacks inside Pakistan territory and the resumption of these supplies would be tantamount on the attack of Pakistani territory and promoting terrorism.
According to the declaration, the moot terms it a conspiracy against the country to do any kind of trade with India and to grant it MFN status and demands that the one sided trade comprising of deficit should be stopped at once. The meeting also urged the government to build up its relations with China and other Muslim countries.
While responding to the questions of reporters, Moulana Sami ruled out the possibility of any Haqqani network in Pakistan. To a question why PDC was not ready to accept the recommendations of the parliamentary committee having representation of all political parties, he said that the committee was giving the recommendations under the influence of the some one else. He also added that the defence as well as sovereignty of he country was the major concern of all Pakistanis. Later, Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Ameer Jamaatud Dawa Pakistan while talking to media after the press conference showed his no confidence on the performance of Kashmir Committee headed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F and said that it had failed to do some effective work on the Kashmir cause.
He also proposed to hold a referendum on the resumption of NATO supplies to Afghanistan. He said that people would reject any political party who would ignore the Kashmir issue.
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hasan, Ameer Jamaatud Dawa Professor Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Awami Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, PML-Zia leader Ijazul Haq, Secretary General Jamiat Ahl-Hadiat Ibtasam Elahi Zaheer, Senior Vice President Ahal Sunnat Wal Jamaat Pakistan Ghulam Mustafa Gadoon and Lt.
