Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chief Imran Khan has said that he did not call off the peace march at some body’s telephone call but took the decision to return from Tank for the security of the workers, participants and journalists.
“The government machinery opposed us rather than cooperating with us against drone attacks on innocent people,” he said, adding government was not sincere with the people of Waziristan.
He criticized government for showing hypocrisy regarding the drone attacks and urged the rulers to speak truth to the people of Pakistan.
Defending his decision to return from Tank he said he had decided to protect the lives of participants of the march. “Who would have been responsible for the likely mishap if the caravan had been hit by miscreants in darkness,” he said.
Replying to a question that he postponed the peace march after a telephone call Imran said it was the practice of Nawaz Sharif to backtrack decision on telephone calls. He referred to the Long March by Nawaz when he returned back from Gujranwala.
He said that it is regrettable to say that old aged journalists came here in Pakistan in order to highlight the drone issue but Maulana Fazlur Rehman tried to scandalize them for his vested interests. It is very shameful to declare them Yahood-o-Nasara who had come from far flung areas on humanitarian bases, said Khan.
He also said that the people like Maulana Fazlur Rehman had done no service to the nation and Islam; rather they are a blot on Islam.
He said that as many as 150 foreign media outlets covered the event despite being threatened by some elements.
Imran Khan said that his march was a success and whole the world was now speaking against the drones.
He said that his march was stopped by the military because it was too late to enter South Waziristan. He said hurdles were created to stop the march from proceedings toward Waziristan by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the government.
Answering a question he said that he had never changed his stance on MQM chief Altaf Hussain and he had told the Scotland Yard police whatever he had to tell.
He said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was a right-hand man of President Asif Ali Zardari and was making fortune just like he did in Musharraf’s regime.
