RAWALPINDI – A total of 50 students have been awarded “Green Bus Cards” to travel on CNG air-conditioned buses, run by the Punjab government, against Rs 10 as fare from the Government Gordon College to Gujar Khan.
These cards were distributed during a ceremony, which was held here at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) here on Wednesday. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal and PML-N MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi were the chief guests on the occasion whereas District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar, MPAs Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Raja Hanif Advocate, Seema Jilani, Director Colleges Dr Muhammad Ashraf and PML-N District President Sardar Mumtaz Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
The chief guests, while addressing on the occasion, said that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was striving hard to promote quality education in the province. “During the four-and-a-half-years of his tenure as many as 35,000 students were given scholarships for higher education which is an example in the history and among the four provinces that such huge number of students of low income people was getting education on scholarship basis,” they added.
They said that the chief minister recruited teachers in educational institutions of the province purely on merit basis so that no deserving candidate could be deprived of his right. The issuance of Green Cards to the students was the continuation of this policy to provide better traveling facilities in air-conditioned buses to the students to reach their institutions and come back to their homes, the speakers added.
Earlier, Commissioner Imdad Ullah Bosal and PML-N MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi pushed the button of website for online registration of students for the issuance of the green cards. The students of the institutions, attained the cards included Government Gordon College, Government Hashmat Ali Islamia College, Government College for Boys Satellite Town, Government Sarwar Shaheed College, Gujar Khan, Government College for Women Gujar Khan, Government Post Graduate College for Women Rawalpindi and Government College for Women Peshawer Road.
