MABAD - Saeed ul Haq and Sadan ul Haq have clinched the titles of men's singles and Under-17 singles competitions respectively of the 7th Siraj ul Haq Memorial Tennis Championship by beating their respective opponents at PTF Tennis Complex, on Saturday. However, the ladies final will be played today at the same venue, which was postponed yesterday due to light rain in Islamabad.
Saeed ul Haq thrashed his younger brother Ikram ul Haq 2-0 in the men's singles to get the top honour of the 7th edition of the Sirj ul Haq Memorial Tennis Championship. He started the game with confidence to tackle low ranked opponent and succeeded to break the 6th game of Ikram. He played wonderful strokes and hit beautiful volleys to brush a side his last opponent.
The second set saw a close contest between the both brothers that ended at tiebreak in the favour of Saeed ul Haq, who received the winning cup from the hands of chief guest after the match. The final score-line was 6-4 and 7-5.
Meanwhile, in the final of Under-17 boys singles, Sadan ul Haq outplayed Jibran ul 2-1 to grab the title at the clay courts of PTF Tennis Complex with the score-line of 6-1, 3-6 and 12-10. Sadan was relaxed in the first set that he won by conceding a single game. However, Jibran did well in the second set when the family member opponent showed bit complacency. He presented top quality game and claimed the second set 6-3 to come back in the vital match of the Under-17 event. Sadan overcame Jibran in super-set in a thrilling competition at 12-10 by displayed excellent game, as his opponent also did some errors at the crucial stage to give opportunity to Sadan to reactive the winning trophy from the hands of chief guest. Despite of leading 8-4 in the super-set, Jibran could not maintain his lead in a nerves breaking final. Also, senior ladies singles 30 plus final could not be played due to rain and would be played today.
A prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the men's singles and boys Under-17 singles held at PTF Tennis Complex, which was graced by Major (r) Rashid Khan, secretary PTF as chief guest. He distributed prizes amongst the winner and runner up of the both disciplines.
