Aitzaz fears polls delay over nomination papers standoff

Senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan fears a delay in elections due to printing of amended nomination papers.

Speaking to reporters here in Islamabad on Wednesday, Aitzaz Ahsan said the Supreme Court could find an excuse to delay the general elections after this step of the Election Commission.
“There is no legal or constitutional standing of the new nomination papers without getting the president’s approval,” he said, adding that the constitution clearly states that president’s approval is necessary.
He was of the view that the ECP has taken an illegal and unconstitutional step by printing this form.
“No doubt, the Supreme Court has the final authority to interpret the constitution. But it cannot be interpreted on the basis of judges’ remarks inside the courtroom.”
To a question, he said a dual national cannot become a member of the parliament now.
