RAWALPINDI  - Aafiat Old Home of the government of Punjab is not providing adequate relief to old people of the city as the inmates get nothing but substandard food, mosquito-bites and contaminated water.According to details, 29 senior citizens residing in the old home complained that they get Rs100 per head a day only for breakfast, lunch, dinner and other expenditures. They said that they have been left on the mercy of the government by their children and relatives, and are counting the days of their life. A resident of the old home, on the condition of anonymity, told INP that the management was not taking good care of them as they are provided substandard curry with boiled rice most of the time. Menu displayed by the old home management is very attractive but they don not follow it, he revealed. When contacted, District Officer Social Welfare, Shafiq Awan said that the fund provided by the govt is very low and staff of the old home is serving the senior citizens even after being scolded by them. “We are trying our best to facilitate the inmates,” he added.
