He expressed these views at a meeting held here on Wednesday to discuss the issue of the said institute with CA&DD and ICT officials. The Senate Chairman expressed his displeasure on mishandling of public property and the lack of any written documents of handing over of 29 acres of land of institute to Bank Alfalah. He said the land of the institute had been donated by the locals and asked for fixing responsibilities for this negligence and recovery of losses accrued from the quarters concerned. He asked for exact estimated cost for rehabilitation of the place in order to convert it into a running and productive institute. The idea about the Barakahu Poly Technique Institute was conceived in 1985 in lieu of Pindi Technical Institute and its revised PC-I was given in 1995 but no further development took place.
The Secretary CADD told the Chairman that Rs692m were required for rehabilitation of the institute in order to serve the needs of 350 students and 150 of them, who would live in the hostel in the initial phase. He said that unavailability of the water supply to the area was also an impediment to the working of this institute.
About the affiliation of the institute, it was proposed in the meeting that either it could be affiliated with any provincial technical board or the federal technical board wing could be established as it will mostly serve the ICT people. Establishment of Technology University in near future by the government will solve the affiliation and examination problem of the institute. Collaboration or association of the institute with the Public Sector University or public-private partnership can assist in meeting not only the rehabilitation cost but also speedup the functioning of the institute. The Chairman Senate recalled a meeting of the stakeholders in the first week of July for seeking recommendations, which will then be forwarded to the PM for approval and finally going ahead with the project.
Senator Mrs. Saeeda Iqbal and Usman Saifullah were also present on the occasion. Imtiaz Inayat Ellahi Secretary CA&DD, Tariq Mehmood Pirzada Chief Commissioner (ICT), Gulab Zameer Director General Pak-PWD, Musadiq Khawaja Executive Engineer Pak-PWD, Zulfiqar Sub-Engineer Pak-PWD and Tajamul Hussain Shah Director (Admn) FDE also attended the meeting.
