Govt, UN to move for Afghan rehab

ISLAMABAD – The government and the UN are mulling over enhanced coordination for the repatriation of illegal Afghan refugees living in Pakistan.

Official figures say, there are 2.7 million illegal Afghans living in different parts of Pakistan while the government says it tried to identify the illegal refugees and take action against them including deportation and detention.
On the other hand, the United Nations does not have any mechanism to deal with the illegal immigrants. The UN is only working for the repatriation of legal Afghan refugees who are much lesser in number than unregistered Afghans.
In order to tackle this situation, the government says it has enhanced consultation with the UN. The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has already tracked and abandoned thousands of the fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) and has assisted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to nab the illegal refugees.
