ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has taken on board all the concerned departments including the notable of local community to check and take effective measures against any fire incident at the margallah hills during the summer season.
For this purpose, Capital Development Authority (CDA) has also taken measures to check the fire incidents during summer season and informed that CDA has established 31 pickets at the Margalla hills and patrolling of CDA officials has been enhanced in the hilly areas.
The officials deployed at the pickets have been provided wireless sets and the wireless system has been upgraded to meet the requirements of hilly areas. SOPs to deal with fire incidents have also been revised and made more effective, an official source said. Local community have also been mobilised and villagers committees of 31 villages falling in the limits of Margalla hills have also been activated for patrolling in the area to immediately report any fire incident to the pickets and police.
A control room is also working round the clock in the CDA to coordinate and ensure immediate response to any fire incident in the forest. Telephone No 16 is also there to report any fire incident to the officials.
The CDA has also launched vigorous awareness drive in the local community to ensure the protection of wild life in the forests and there should be no smoking in the area.
CDA has also placed boards on the tracks for not smoking in the hills. The source said that effective coordination will be maintained among all the concerned departments to control such incidents during the summer season.
To a question regarding the fire on Margalla hills on Friday, the source said that teams have been dispatched on the site and efforts were made to control it.
