No apology for Babar if convicted, says SC

The Supreme Court said Wednesday if Senator Babar Awan is convicted then it might be assumed that his apology has been turned down. The Supreme Court adjourned the proceedings till Thursday in contempt of court case against former Law Minister Senator Babar Awan. The 2 members bench comprising of Justice Athar Saeed and Justice Gulzar Ahmad heard the case proceeding on Wednesday. Babar Awan appeared before the apex court with his counsel Ali Zafar. While during arguments Ali Zafar requested the court to listen his arguments entirely before passing verdict. He asked the Court to terminate the proceeding because his client already apologized unconditionally and the respect of court restores after the apology. Upon this, Justice Athar Saeed said if Babar Awan would be convicted then it may be assumed that the apology has been turned down. Then Ali Zafar was of the view there should not be any further proceedings after an apology. Ahead of this argument, Justice Athar Saeed said that there are many exemplary cases already held in the court. Then Ali Zafar said it seems the Court has already decided to convict his client Babar Awan. “If it looks to you that Court has already decided of conviction then you should come up with the full arguments and we will listen to you and then pass the verdict”, panel said to the counsel of Babar Awan.
