ISLAMABAD – The local administration has claimed that it had started vigorous anti-profiteering drive in the Capital area from Wednesday in order to ensure the availability of food items at control rates and curbing the profiteering tendency during the month of Ramazan.
A spokesman of the administration said that sub-divisional magistrates conducted price checking in their respective six sub-divisions and imposed a total fine of Rs 22,360 on the profiteers for not displaying the rate list of food items and over charging from the consumers. They also warned the profiteers to ensure the display of rate list of fruit and vegetables failing which stern action would be initiated against the offenders.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Amer Ali Ahmed, said that the administration had been issuing rate list of fruit and vegetables on daily basis and food department was supplying the rate list to the shopkeepers in the early morning for display. He said that he had constituted 17 price checking teams headed by the sub-divisional magistrates and they had been directed to ensure daily price checking from now on and ensure implementation of rate list. He said that heavy fines would be imposed with stern action against those found involved in over-charging.
