ISLAMABAD - The National Space Conference 2012 organised by Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) concluded here on Wednesday.
The three-day event was attended by the delegates from a number of countries including Russia, China, Canada, Egypt, Malaysia and Nigeria as well as international organisations including United Nations and Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organisation.
Chairman SUPARCO Ahmed Bilal hosted the event while Federal Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar was the chief guest of the concluding day comprising of three sessions.
Speaking on the occasion, Naveed Qamar said that with advancements in satellite-enabled services and space technology-related innovations, there is a greater need for investment in space technology and applications. “Cooperation and joint ventures among countries is becoming more imperative,” he said.
He further said that Pakistan had embarked on an ambitious plan for achieving self-reliance in space science, technology and applications through cooperation and collaboration with other nations. He appreciated that a large number of government departments was availing SUPARCO’s services and thus paving the way for sustainable national development.
Ahmed Talebzadeh, Director General Department of External Relations and Legal Affairs, APSCO Secretariat; Gao Rufoei, Vice President, China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) and Abdullah Jamil Khan, Administrator, Inter Islamic Network on Space Science & Technology (ISNET) addressed the concluding session.
