ISLAMABAD - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Saturday welcomed the release of Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, saying that it would help Afghan reconciliation process.
If other imprisoned Taliban who want to be part of the dialogue process are released, this step would be helpful for reconciliation efforts, said religio-political party chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman in a statement after the release of Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
Pakistan should restart efforts for Afghan reconciliation and also provide its help for internal reconciliation talks of Afghanistan, he said, adding that the efforts for Afghan reconciliation would leave positive impacts on Pakistan’s peace and sovereignty. He said such kind of steps between government and Taliban are showing seriousness of reconciliation process, which is good omen. He said that the step would also benefit government-Taliban talks in Pakistan.
