President Asif Ali Zardari has said that drone attacks are not only violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty but are counter productive and their legality is questionable.
According to the president’s spokesman, both discussed bilateral relations, especially Pakistan-US relations.
The meeting also discussed the development projects in Pakistan being done under USAID.
According to sources, President Zardari conveyed to the US ambassador concerns over drone attacks and said that such attacks are not only violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty but are counter productive. He said that drone attacks have complicated the anti terror drive.
He said that such attacks fuel anti US sentiments and are killing civilians.
Sources said that President said that US new guidelines over drone attacks in Pakistan need to be reviewed. Stressin on enhanced intelligence sharing to combat militancy in tribal areas he said that our forces are well equipped and competent enough to handle terrorists. He said due to huge sacrifices made by our armed forces we have broken the back of terrorists.
Sources said that President also assured that PPP government is committed to holding free and fair elections and said that elections would be held on time and there would be no delay.
The President expressed the hope that his tenure as ambassador would serve to further strengthen Pak-US relations based on mutual trust‚ respect and mutual benefit.
