FPAP holds workshop on MDGs

April 25, 2012

ISLAMABAD - Out of 18 targets and 48 indicators, Pakistan has adopted 16 targets and 37 indicators against the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) derived from United Nations Millennium Declaration signed in September 2000.

Rahnuma-Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP), regional office, Islamabad organised a workshop under the guidance of Amir Hameed, regional director on MDGs, especially focusing on MDG-5(b) - Universal Access to Reproductive Health and Safe Motherhood, chaired by Mustafa Hussain Siddiqui, Vice President, Islamabad region. It was attended by District Officers /representatives of Punjab government, partners, volunteers and media persons. The object of this event was to focus /accelerate the implementation of MDGs targets and to know about the status of indicators, which were to be achieved till 2015.
It was agreed that after 18th Constitutional Amendment, about 17 federal ministries have been shifted to provinces; therefore, being provincial chapters, provincial governments have the responsibility to shoulder execution of MDGs at their own level to contribute their share to achieve set targets.
The MDGs provide us with a set of clear goals to be reached by 2015.
These goals cover a wide range of issues that all 192 United Nations’ member states and at least 23 international organisations have agreed to meet.
