CEC confident to hold free, fair elections

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has said there will be free and fair general elections in the country.

Talking to VOA, he said that the institutions have constitutional powers, and they do not need the powers like that in India. Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim said that their institution is authoritative and independent.
He commented that no demand has been made for extra powers to the Election Commission for transparency in the general elections.
To a question regarding ban on the recruitments in the government departments and development funds, Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim said rigging before the general elections will be stopped with the help of this step.
He viewed that the Election Commission along with caretaker prime minister will take steps to ensure that the government machinery is not used by any political party in the general elections expectantly being held in May and the commission has started planning in this regard, he added.
