COAS meets Afghan Defence Minister

An Afghan delegation led by Defence Minister General Bismillah Khan Muhammadi called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at General Headquarters Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations here, the two sides discussed matters of professional interest, with particular focus on enhancing mutual defence cooperation and measures that Afghan and Pakistan forces intend for an enduring training relationship.
Operationalization of the recently concluded agreement on Tripartite Border Standing Operating Procedures was also discussed in detail.
The agreement is aimed at improving existing security cooperation and intelligence sharing mechanisms, on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border.
Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said Pakistan sought sustainable peace and security in Afghanistan.
Speaking on this occasion, Afghan Defence Minister Gen Muhammadi said that release of Afghan Taliban by the Pakistan government would promote the peace process. On the occasion, the Afghan defence minister said it was important to increase defence cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Afghan defence minister said Afghanistan would continue to seek guidance from Pakistan in its defence-related matters.
The two agreed on cooperation between the countries in order to fight terrorism.
