SC adjourns hearing of Babar Awan contempt case till June 27

The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of former law minister Babar Awan contempt of court case till June 27. The two member-bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ijaz Afzal and Justice Athar Saeed resumed hearing of the case. During the hearing, Justice Ijaz Afzal remarked that the court would provide full chance to Babar Awan for his defence in the case and would not give any decision in a hurry. An accused Babar Awan appeared before the SC bench but his counsel was not present in the court. Attorney General Irfan Qadir told the court that the recording of CD of Babar Awan’s press conference on December 1 was submitted as evidence. On this, Babar Awan requested the court to give him at least eight weeks for preparing his defence. He also rejected the CD recording as evidence. He told the court that his trial should not be conducted on the pattern of Dr Aafia Saddique who was imprisoned by the US court without hearing her. The court giving opportunity to him adjourned the hearing till June 27.
