Govt committed to protecting minorities’ rights: PM




ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the present government was committed to protect the rights of minority communities as it believed in promoting interfaith harmony. He appreciated the efforts of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) for taking concrete measures in facilitating the Sikhs to perform their religious rituals at their holy sites in the country.The Prime Minister expressed the views in a meeting with Chairman ETPB, Syed Asif Hashmi at the PM’s House this morning.The government, he added, had also established a separate Ministry of National Harmony to facilitate the minorities as well as preserve their sacred places to enable them to perform their religious rituals with freedom as envisaged in the constitution. Syed Asif Hashmi informed the Prime Minister that as per his directions he has been in constant touch with Pakistan’s Embassy in the UK for resolution of visas related issues of Sikh Yatrees.The Chairman ETPB also apprised the Prime Minister about issues relating to the Board.
