KARACHI - The lawmakers of Sindh Assembly from the ruling PPP have strongly recommended the party and allies to end political interference in the police and ensure posting of officers on merit which is the only way of permanent solution of deteriorating law and order.They also questioned the decision of their government of police operation initiated only in Lyari area, when incidents of targeted killings are occurring in other parts of the city too.The House, which met at 11.25am against the scheduled time of 09.30am with Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro in the chair, after disposing off the agenda, resumed discussion on law and order situation in Sindh.Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo, a vocal lawmaker from the PPP, while delivering speech said the loopholes prevails in the criminal justice system of Pakistan require reforms through legislation.She questioned that why the police operation being launched only in Lyari, saying that every day innocent people being killed in targeted killings in other areas. “People are asking us why police operation being launched only in Lyari,” provincial minister put a question before her government. She said that they were tired of counting dead bodies of their workers in Karachi. Following the ongoing police operation, peoples are migrating from the area, she said, continued that Lyari is not Beirut or Baghdad. People asking us that when target killings occurred in other areas, why not the scale of operation are spread to other areas of the city, PPP minister added. Without mentioning the name of any political force, PPP lawmaker said whichever political party had arm wing should dispel it immediately. She said that the Karachi is heart of Sindh, where influx of illegal immigrants causing additional burden on resources of the province, besides these aliens are one of the reason of increased crime in the city.She complained that despite government minister, the political opponents in Thatta district have lodged fake cases of kidnapping against her father.Chairman of Public Accounts Committee of Sindh Assembly Sardar Jam Tamachi Unar said the law and order situation in Karachi and other parts of the province is worse. He called upon the political leadership of ruling coalition to come up with solution of law and order situation of Karachi.Tamachi said that 1985 during dictatorial rule of Ziaul Haq, the districts of Sindh were divided among the feudal, where police officers were posted on the wishes of politicians.“When an ineligible police officer is posted by the politicians, how one can expects of maintaining of law and order in the area,” he questioned, adding that posting of district police chief, DSPs and SHOs still being done on the wishes of the politicians. “Let us promise with each other that we will not allow political interference in police and education,” he advised the colleagues in Sindh Assembly. He emphasised to give free hand to the police chief of Sindh and wait for positive results within specific period. He also recommended the MPAs to vow to not use our influence to get posting of any police officer in our areas.Chairman standing committee for home department, Haji Anwar Mahar while talking part in discussion said that law and order situation will not maintains in the society without elimination of corruption and ensuring of justice. ‘If you want to control the corruption than increased the facilities for police including enhancing the salaries and other perks for them’, he proposed the government.He also supported the suggestion of his colleague that law and order will not improved until end of political interference in police department and posting of police officers on merit. Taking part in debate on law and order, Syed Manzar Imam of MQM said that though the law and order situation is worse in other provinces but Karachi, which contributes 70 percent in the national economy, being targeted through conspiracy.Tahir Qureshi of MQM termed the police action in Lyari against criminals a better decision. He demanded that investigation be initiated against the so called politicians, who supported the criminals of Lyari.Earlier, when the assembly commenced the lawmakers offered for the deceased souls who have been killed in Lyari area.
