October 01, 2012

KARACHI - Inspector General of Police Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari has directed his department to devise a security plan for cattle markets being established temporarily on Superhighway and other points in the city.

Extraordinary measures should be taken for the safety of livestock traders and the general public visiting these cattle markets and all the weaknesses experienced in the past should be taken into consideration while preparing the plan, he urged.
Since many small cattle markets were set up without permission in congested areas of the city causing security risk, the security plan should also cover these aspects, he stressed.
The IGP directed that the security plan must envisage the deployment of commandos, their patrolling, random snap checking, patrolling on motorcycles in surrounding streets etc. in view of crimes taking place often at such places.
He further directed to take steps for setting up watch towers and temporary wireless bases at cattle market of super highway and ensure provision of walky-talky to the officers and other police personnel performing duty at cattle markets.
Besides ensuring presence of bomb disposal squad for sweeping and clearance at cattle markets, IGP also called for vigilance at parking places, tea stalls and such other locations in those areas.
Laghari directed traffic police authorities to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the eve preparing a traffic plan containing extraordinary measures.
