KARACHI - Bounties of Health, a book authored by Fawzia Memon was launched here on Sunday.
Prof Dr Ataur Rehman, a renowned Pakistani scientist of international repute, spoke on the occasion about the richness of the country’s indigenous herbs, vegetables and fruits.
He emphasised the need for continued scientific research to bring the benefits of natural products for the good of mankind. Prof Ata appreciated the efforts to bring these aspects in the book and recognised the author for her human and caring qualities.
The author being ‘a health conscious person’ has highlighted bounties of health offered by many fruits, vegetables and herbs of Pakistan.
The book is divided into three sections. The first section is about vegetables, fruits, herbs and their benefits. The second section pertains to ailments and how to deal with them through proper diet. The third section of the book includes cooking recipes which are related to the same ingredients, which are simple and healthy. Memon believes, ‘it is important for healthy living to use these natural bounties as preventive and nutritive values’ and through the book she wishes to create health awareness amongst our people.
She announced that the book will be published in Urdu for it to reach greater number of rural and urban people.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naseem Salahuddin, a leading consultant, said that in today’s hectic life, healthy living is a must for our young nation to sustain competition in comity of nations and lauded Fawzia Memon’s yet another contribution to society. Sultana Siddiqui, a well known media personality, who founded a family TV channel and a cooking channel, appreciated author’s maiden effort and believed it will go a long way in creating much needed health awareness amongst the citizens. Shirin Saleh, the TV channel cooking expert, also attended the launch.
Dr Sania Nishter, founder president of the Heartfile, commenting on the book, said, “Nutrition is the foundation on which health rests, and culinary skills the instrument through which that bedrock is founded. Exploiting a synergy between the two is an art, and that measure, this book, a masterpiece.”
Cooking expert Kokab Khawaja , who has written 22 books said, ‘the book has been prepared with a view to enhancing the education and training of health professionals in food industry.
