KARACHI - Deputy Commissioner Karachi Central District, Dr. Saifur Rehman has directed the officials and staff engaged in national immunization against polio campaign, scheduled to begin on Monday, to strictly comply with the plan chalked out for the district.“Compliance to well thought-out plan will produce best of results with nil chance of missed or left-out children,” he said while chairing a meeting in his office to review the arrangements finalized for the campaign.The D.C Central urged the district health officer to ensure that not only the members of vaccination teams are fully trained but administrative measures are also fool proof so that they find no difficulty in easy access to the target groups of children, who must be necessarily administered the oral polio vaccine. “Protection of our children is our collective responsibility,” he said.Dr. Saifur Rehman said he would personally supervise the campaign and will expect his colleagues to pay equal attention towards slums and least developed areas in the district as the child residents are highly vulnerable to the crippling virus.“We can not make any distinction and discrimination as each child is precious and moreover every carrier holds chance to affect others,” he said.“Pakistani children like any other child is vulnerable till the virus persists and immunization of essential anti polio vaccine will strengthen their immunity,” the deputy commissioner of Karachi central said.He elaborated that since polio virus continues to haunt children living in the country therefore responsibility lies all the more on each and every Pakistani to fight against it.He directed the officials to ensure that contact developed with prayer leaders, imams of mosques, community leaders, teachers and other influential sections of the society are kept on board so as to counter any chance of refusal or reluctance among the parents or care takers of children below the age of five.He said public awareness is a continuing process and people would otherwise too continued to be help in getting rid about any myths or misconception about the oral polio vaccine (OPV).The meeting among others was also attended by the representatives of WHO and Unicef.
