Imran condemns drone strike in NWA

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chief, Imran Khan on Saturday strongly condemned US drone strike in North Waziristan which killed 24 people. Imran Khan stated that the latest drone attack speaks volumes about the so called “close working partnership” between Pakistan and the United States in the ongoing war. Imran Khan said that the rulers of Pakistan reopened NATO supply routes against strong sentiments of the people of Pakistan and bypassed parliamentary resolutions to appease the United States. The United States on the other hand has reciprocated by continuous drone strikes, the last of which killed 24 people. Strongly condemning these strikes Imran Khan stated that continuing drone assaults were in clear violation of international humanitarian laws. There is complete media censorship in the tribal areas and resultantly there is no way to ascertain the identities of those killed in these strikes. Imran demanded that the government should disclose the identification details of the causalities so that we know that how many women children and ordinary civilians have been killed. Imran Khan also said that will any other nation state of the world allow indiscriminate killing of its citizens. The fact that their identities are not disclosed casts serious doubts on claims that those killed in the strikes were militants. He claimed that the government is equally responsible in indiscriminate elimination of its citizens as it has consciously avoided disclosing identification details of those killed in American drone strikes. Our rulers are blindly supporting US claims of high precision drone strikes and minimum collateral damage when they are actually aware of the details of Pakistani civilian casualties in the tribal areas, the PTI Chief said. Rejecting claims that the strikes are primarily carried out against foreign militants, Imran Khan stated that statistics from various independent organizations suggest that both the United States and the Government of Pakistan are grossly under reporting civilian casualties. Furthermore, accounts of various local and western journalists suggest that a large number of local civilians have been killed in these strikes. Government has conveniently avoided commenting on stopping unilateral drone strikes that was one of the most critical parliamentary preconditions before reopening NATO Supply routes. Rulers who have agreed to continue these drone strikes are responsible for the killings of innocent Pakistanis in the Tribal Areas, he added.
