KARACHI - An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement among 3 others were killed in an unabated spree of political target killings continued in the city which suspended commercial and non-commercial activities in old city areas.
An activist of Muttahida Organising Committee, a wing of MQM, was shot dead near Korangi Dar-ul-Uloom Road within the limits of Awami Colony police station. The incident took place when armed men targeted a man driving a car.
The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as Raees Ahmed son of Samiullah was the resident of Gulistan-E-Jauhar Block 16. SHO Javed Brohi said he was going some where on his alto car when armed men reached on motorcycle and shot him thrice. Resultantly he sustained serious bullet injuries and died on the way to hospital.
Scores of MQM workers reached the hospital after being informed. MPA Shiekh Muhammad Afzal also reached hospital. Sheikh Afzal told newsmen deceased was an active member of MOC 90 Committee and he was the employee of CDGK land department. He condemned the killing of MQM worker.
SHO said victim was the father of five children and according to the eyewitness, he was on his car when gunmen targeted him.
Tension engulfed in several areas including Korangi, Landhi after the murder of MQM worker. No case was registered till filing of the report.
In another incident, a youth identified as Waqar Ahmed alias Khurram, 30, was shot dead near his residence situated in Federal B Area within the jurisdiction of Jauharabad police station. Police officials said that the victim was not affiliated with any political organisation.
The deceased was sitting along with his friends when armed culprits targeted him. They said that it might have been possible that the culprits killed him over personal enmity.
Moreover, a 26-year-old young man identified as Mohammad Yaseen, son of Ramzan was found dead in a gunny bag near Bait ul Mukarram Masjid, Gulshan-e-Iqbal within Aziz Bhatti police remits.
Police officials said that victim’s hands and legs were also tied with rope, adding that he was shot once in his head before throwing into the abandon place. Deceased was a driver by profession, lived in Surjani locality and got twice marriages. Police officials suspected that the victim killed over personal enmity.
Parts of old city areas including Garden, Dhobi Ghaat, Usmanabad and Fakir Mohammad Durra Khan road remained tense on Wednesday where the routine and commercial activities were suspended due to overnight clash between two ethnic groups. At least one rickshaw and several pushcarts were set on fire while the intense firing also smashed glasses of several houses. Heavy contingent of Rangers and police were put on high alert at the affected areas.
