Non-Muslims incline towards halal food

KARACHI – Agricultural and food experts have underlined the importance of the Halal food in term of its quality and human health safety, and said that non-Muslim world is also inclining towards the use of Halal foods all over the world as the concept of Halal food becomes symbol of safety and quality.

“Annually, around 50,000 people die of malnutrition and substandard quality of foods all over the world, while annually 10,000 people die of quantity of food in the world. In Pakistan people are not properly aware about the use of Halal food, they said, while speaking at a seminar titled Halal: Symbol of Intolerance, Safety and Quality, held on Saturday in the Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi. The Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, University of Karachi, has organised the seminar. Vice Chancellor University of Karachi Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser inaugurated the seminar. While delivering an inaugural speech, the KU Chief said that the use of Halal food is vital for the better health, pointing out that Pakistan can earn huge foreign exchange by exporting Halal food to other countries.
He congratulated the organizers for holding such an important event in the University. Prof. Dr. Salem Shahzad, chairman - department of agriculture and agribusiness management, said that in Pakistan people are not properly aware about the use of Halal food, which is point of concern for every one.
He said that use of chemicals in the manufacturing of foods in the industries matters for declaring the food Halal and Haram, as use of some chemicals can make the food Haram.   Syed Rameez Hasan Rizvi presented vote of thanks in the end of the seminar, while M. Akram Khan, Mufti Ehsan Ahmed, Dr. Omer Mukhtar Tarar, Khwaja Ghulam, Ms. Zahra Shakir Khan, Mufti Saad Shamim, Dr. Abul Rab Farooqui, Irfan Ahmed Mangi and Raheel Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.
