Protest against CID

KARACHI - The family of the deceased elderly man staged a protest against the personnel of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday, alleging that the CID Personnel tortured the old man to death in his house at Metrovil area of Site.

They said that the CID personnel entered their home to arrest the young son of the sixty-five-year-old Rana Mohammad Afzal and tortured him so badly over unavailability of his son at the home. As a result, the victim’s condition turned critical and he died. The protestors also shouted slogans against the incident and demanded the legal action against the CID personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
The protestors also tried to block the flow of traffic by setting the tyres on road, however, a heavy contingent of law enforcers, reached the site and dispersed the protestors.
Police officials said that the deceased’s death was natural and his family was trying to change the nature of the incident to build the pressure on police while further investigation was underway.
Man gunned down: A man belonging to the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, was gunned down at his electronic shop in Orangi Town within Iqbal Market police remits. The deceased was identified as Naseem, 30, son of Saleem. Police officials said that two armed riders shot and killed the victim over apparently sectarian basis.
His body was taken to Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town where his family and ASWJ men also staged a protest. The victim’s two brothers, namely Shamim and Waseem were also wounded when unidentified armed men restored to indiscriminate firing during the protest at the hospital.
Earlier, a general secretary for the Awami National Party’s Korangi area was wounded. The incident took place when the victims were sitting outside their homes situated at Sector 8, Korangi within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. SHO Tariq Raheem said that the initial investigation suggests that the ANP’s local leader, namely Sanaullah was the target of the culprits, adding that he was shot thrice. The injured was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where doctors termed his condition critical.
