KARACHI – Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Managing Director Misbahuddin Fareed resigned on Thursday over media trial began suddenly over illegal water hydrants running across the city because of the involvement of high profile personalities.
He when contacted said that I have resigned over some personal issues but sources confirmed that media trail of KWSB gave a high time to Freed which resulting he could not suppose to continue his job and tendered his resignation.
Fareed said, “I used to fight for the betterment of the department and against the illegal water supply and connections but it would be difficult to tackle issues.”
Fareed was appointed MD in January 15 2011 as a project manager, used to play prominent role in K-III scheme, which brought 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of additional water to the city in 2006. Over the past few months, the KWSB has taken action against illegal water connections and hydrants. Some people have accused him of turning a blind eye on influential and politically connected culprits which was the main reason behind his resignation.
Karachi Water Tanker Owners Welfare Association alleged that illegal hydrants were still running in Gizri, Baldia, Manghopir, Banaras, Korangi and many other areas. It said that hydrants, which suck water from large pipelines, could not be set up without tacit approval of the KWSB staff. A senior water board official who has closely worked with Fareed blamed political interference for the frustration in the organisation. “We have shutdown illegal hydrants several times but politically-influenced people supported them.”
