SC takes exception to law officers conduct

KARACHI - Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday took exception of poor performance of federal law officers in assisting court on important case relating to confirmation of two former additional judges of Sindh High Court. A special four-member bench comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Amir Hani Muslim & Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed, got annoyed when Deputy Attorney General Javed Farooqui requested for adjournment of case due to non-availability of another DAG Ashiq Raza.The bench specially constituted to hear petitions seeking direction for Sindh government to notify appointment of Justice Muhammad Sadaat Khan & Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai.On Wednesday, the apex court’s special bench had adjourned hearing till Thursday as Deputy Attorney General Ashiq Raza was not present despite issuance of notice to him.When case was taken up for hearing today, DAG Javed Farooqui sought adjournment of case, saying he was recently appointed as DAG, while another DAG Ashiq Raza was unwell to appear for assisting court.Expressing displeasure on conduct of federal law officers, SC bench adjourned hearing for 15 minutes with direction to call DAG Ashiq Raza.Later, DAG Ashiq Raza appeared and requested for adjourning hearing till on September 7, 2012 so that he could prepare for case.Apex court’s bench adjourned hearing till August 07, 2012 with caution to DAG Ashiq Raza to appear for court’s assistance on next date.
