KARACHI – The Pakistan Medical Association Karachi chapter has demanded that the Dr Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences (DIKIOHS) be affiliated with the newly-announced Sindh Medical University. In a statement issued on Tuesday following a meeting at the PMA House, the association said, “Since the policy for fresh admissions would soon be announced, it was a matter of great concern for students seeking admission to the DIKIOHS.” “It is believed that admissions for BDS will be restricted to dental colleges in the DUHS and Dow Medical College. The DIKIOHS is located in the old block of the SMC, to be affiliated with the Sindh Medical University.” The statement added, “It will be against the rules and regulations to affiliate a medical or dental college located in a university to another university as a sub-branch.” It is also hoped that the Sindh Medical University will start functioning as independent autonomous body in the current year.”Chaired by PMA Karachi President Dr Idrees Adhi, the meeting was attended by Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr Qaiser Sajjad, Dr Najam F Mahmoodi and Dr Qazi Wasiq.
