KARACHI - Indus Raag, a project of classical music featuring artists from the Sub-continent, Germany and the UK, was launched here on Saturday on the opening day of the two-day Tehzeeb Festival 2012.The launch of Indus Raag, watched by a houseful of music fans, was marked by speeches by Uxi Mufti, Javed Jabbar, Pir Aftah Shah Jilani and others.Uxi Mufti said that all musicians and artistes should be declared national treasures by the government and made professors emeritus of the universities in their respective fields.Javed Jabbar talked of the natural affinity between humans and birds and the genetic linkage between them through music. Pir Aftab Shah lauded the efforts of Sharif Awan to work against all odds, particularly the stifling atmosphere of the Zia era, to keep the sublime cultural traditions alive.Meanwhile, the two-day extravaganza of Sub-Continental classical music under the aegis of Tehzeeb Foundation enthralled audiences on its opening night Saturday.
